Snowshoe Thompson Statue

Snowshoe Thomson was the only person to transport mail on a regular basis between the east side of the Sierra Nevada and the foothill mining communities of California. He was said to be unstoppable; neither sub-zero temperatures nor blizzard conditions could prevent him from doing his job. Snowshoe worked from around 1856 to 1876, but never was paid for delivering the mail. This statue of Snowshoe Thompson is located in Mormon Station State Park in Genoa, and was dedicated on June 23, 2001.
