Originally built in 1860, the Virginia Street Bridge has always been a landmark for downtown Reno.

San Rafael dog park is located where McCarran Blvd. and North Virginia St. intersect, near the University of Nevada, Reno.

Rattlesnake mountain is located south of the Reno/Tahoe airport and overlooks south Reno and downtown.

Hidden Valley is located in East Reno, and and the hills above it provide beautiful views of Reno in the distance. The park holds many hidden treasures, such as a horse arena, a dog park, and many walking trails.

A Day in the Life of Reno – March 28, 2015

Inspired by Rick Smolen’s successful Day in the Life series of photography books, the Spring 2015 Photojournalism class (JOUR 313) created as their class documentary project “A Day in the Life of Reno” on March 28.

Rancho San Rafael Park Covered Bridge, by Shani Ramirez (S-2015)

This covered bridge is located in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park on North Virginia Street. This park has numerous activites for the public such as hiking, barbecue areas, a museum, and an arboretum.

The Hunter Creek trail takes around four hours to fully complete. An enormous waterfall is the prize at the end of the 3-mi trail.

The Truckee River Whitewater Park is located in the heart of Reno’s downtown and arts district.

Crystal Peak; by Eric Cachinero

Crystal Peak, a solid quartz crystal summit just outside of Reno, sits aside the old Emigrant Trail above Dog Valley. Hikers, campers and geological enthusiasts alike can spend time in the great outdoors searching for the perfect quartz crystal. Crystal Peak, which holds an array of different colored quartz crystals, can be accessed from either Verdi or Bordertown.

Slalom Kayak Course; by Zachary Alexander

This is the slalom course at Downtown Reno’s whitewater park. The course has been set up for the annual Reno River Festival which will take place on May 11 and 12, 2013.
